Bendale also known as Cedarbrae is a multi-culturally, neighborhood that is suitably located east of Toronto. This neighborhood was first settled by David and Mary Thompson in late 1790s and has some fame landmarks that includes Thompson Memorial Park (used in commemorating the first settlers), Scarborough Town Shopping Centre is another important landmark, while the Scarborough Civic Centre, the Scarborough Museum at Brimley north of Lawrence and Scarborough General Hospital located at Lawrence and McCowan completes the list.

Generally, most of the homes in Bendale dates back to the 1950s and 60s. They come mainly as bungalows and split levels on huge piece of land with garage and a quality driveway. There are now a number of modern high rising apartments and condominium sited along McCowan road just a stone throw from the 401.

Bendale is served my many schools, and they include: Bendale Junior Public School, North Bendale Junior Public School, Edgewood Public School, Donwood Junior Public School, Hunter's Glen Junior Public School, Highbrook Learning Centre, Bendale Business and Technical Institute and David and Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute. Others include St. Albert Catholic School, St. Victor Catholic School, St. Richard Catholic School, St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School. And finally, the Jamiah Islamiyah of Scarborough which is a Muslim private school.

Shopping

There are numerous shops in Bendale for residents. Scarborough Town Centre (300 Borough Drive) is an indoor shopping mall with numerous and diverse shops. Others include The Northern Cone (73 Kootenay Crescent, Scarborough) and Consumer Deals (2115 Midland Ave #8, Scarborough).

Restaurants

There are numerous restaurants in the Scarborough Town Centre. They include, A&W,McDonald’s, Moxie’s Grill & Bar, Cultures, and Swiss Chalet Rotisserie & Grill. Other restaurants in Bendale includes, Bendale Restaurant (3264 Lawrence Ave E), Ding-Ho Chinese Food (2873 Lawrence Ave E), Fusion Restaurant and Lounge (805 Brimley Rd), Jack Astor's Bar & Grill (580 Progress Ave) and Lucky Chinese Restaurant and Pizza Pizza both located in the Midland Lawrence Plaza (2650 Lawrence Ave E).

Getting Around/Transit

Residents can get across the neighborhood through bus routes along Midland Avenue and McCowan road which connects to stations on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. The Lawrence Avenue and Ellesmere Road buses provide feasible connecting routes to the Yonge-University- Spadina subway line. The Highway 401on-ramp is approximately five minute from McCowan Road for motorists.
